SLOW DOWN FOR SUMMER - Children at play!
There is no reason to speed. Please don’t put children’s lives at risk. Even older children often do not look when entering into a street chasing a ball or running after other children. It only takes a second and every mile per hour increase in your speed increases the risk of injury or death exponentially. Please slow down and watch out for children.
Uncontrolled Intersections. There are multiple uncontrolled intersections in the neighborhood. At uncontrolled intersections, nobody has right-of-way; the law states you should always slow down when approaching an uncontrolled intersection and yield to traffic from your right unless you are already at or within the intersection. The vast majority of residents are very careful when driving in the neighborhood. The bulk of bad drivers and speeders appear to be contractors visiting homes, delivery drivers, and visitors going to homes in the neighborhood.
Please speak up and ask people to be careful and watch out for children. A simple word to a delivery driver or a chat with your teenagers (and their friends) may save a life.
Key Rules for Uncontrolled Intersections in Iowa: Source: Iowa DOT
Yield to the Right: If two cars approach at the same time, the vehicle on the left yields to the right.
Vehicles Already in Intersection: Drivers must yield to vehicles that have already entered the intersection from a different highway.
Safety Precautions: Due to a lack of stop or yield signs, drivers must slow down and be prepared to stop to avoid a collision.
Pedestrians/Cyclists: Every intersection, including uncontrolled ones, constitutes a crosswalk; drivers must yield to pedestrians or cyclists.

RAGBRAI INFORMATION Wednesday, July 22, 2026
RAGBRAI will be entering Nevada as early as 7AM (a few may be sooner). The main flux of riders are anticipated to be entering Nevada from 10AM to 2:30PM. RAGBRAI will stop providing support to riders in Nevada at 2:30PM. The RAGBRAI route will enter Nevada on S14, turning left on Lincoln Highway.
LINCOLN HIGHWAY WILL BE CLOSED AT S14 (ALSO CALLED WEST 3RD) TO ALLOW FOR SAFE ACCESS FOR THE RIDERS. THE CLOSURE WILL BE IN EFFECT ALL THE WAY TO 19TH STREET. WE WILL HAVE CONTROLLED CROSSINGS AT IDENTIFIED INTERSECTIONS THROUGH THE DAY TO ALLOW ACCESS NORTH/SOUTH OF LINCOLN HIGHWAY. The exact closure time will likely be determined in June when the pre-ride comes to town.
What this means to our neighborhood is access to the downtown area of Nevada would require residents to use W 18th Street (Airport Road) to Highway 30 and back into town on either 6th Street or 19th Street.
Key Details for Nevada's Role in 2026:
Date: Wednesday, July 22, 2026 (Day 4 of the ride).
Rider Traffic: Expecting 20,000+ riders passing through, with official bike shops and medical trailers stationed there.
Theme: "Vegas: Welcome to Fabulous Nevada, Iowa".
Location: Focusing on the Downtown District for the lunchtime festivities.
Route Context: Riders will be moving from Boone toward Marshalltown during their 62.2-mile journey that day.
Come and enjoy the fun. Bring a lawn chair (some are provided).
Mingle with your neighbors, listen to the music, and enjoy some delicious food.
